Jets QB Mike White's future as starter undecided

The New York Jets got a very solid performance from quarterback Mike White on Sunday against the Chicago Bears.

White threw for 315 yards and three touchdowns in the 31-10 victory and got wideout Elijah Moore involved in the passing game (64 yards, one touchdown).

He also helped make wideout Garrett Wilson look like a superstar with 95 yards and two touchdowns.

The Jets benching 2021 first-round quarterback Zach Wilson seems to have worked for this game. It's not likely Wilson plays again unless White majorly falters down the stretch.

Could White be the team's answer at quarterback going ahead if Wilson's not destined for success in the Big Apple?

Well, he might, but it's no foregone conclusion.

White's impressive start on Sunday matches his Cincinnati Bengals game in 2021. In that contest, White threw for 405 yards and three touchdowns on the Bengals while Wilson was injured.

In four games in 2021, White threw for 953 yards, five touchdowns and a whopping eight interceptions. The picks give you major pause, being that it's an average of two picks a game in such a small sample size.

White is likely going to get the rest of the season to make his case for the future. He might just be a long-term option for the team, but it's not a lock. His 2021 turnover rates are going to have to get tremendously tighter.

If the former Western Kentucky quarterback can clean up his game, maybe he has a shot. Wilson's book isn't fully written in New York, either. For such a talented team as New York, it's not easy not to have the quarterback position locked in.

White might be the guy, but it remains to be seen.
