With a mark of 8-6 last week, we closed out our fourth straight winning week in strikeout props. Four straight! I know football is all the rage right now with the NFL returning to action, but there's no reason to stop this cash cow while it's hot. So, let's kick off the new week with my three favorite K props for Monday's MLB slate.
Any time a pitcher's strikeout prop is this high against the Miami Marlins, I'm going to take the under. The Marlins have the fifth-lowest strikeout rate in MLB this season (23.2 percent), and they should be able to give Brandon Woodruff some trouble on Monday night. Woodruff is averaging 6.9 strikeouts per game in his eight starts this season, so why will he clear his average against one of the stingiest strikeout lineups in the league? Give me the under.
Let's stick to the same game for our second selection. The Milwaukee Brewers have struggled in the strikeout department of late, as they've recorded the third-highest strikeout rate in MLB over the last 15 days (29.3 percent). Meanwhile, Jesus Luzardo has been on fire with 21 strikeouts and just two earned runs over his last 18 innings pitched. The Miami Marlins starter is in line for another strong performance on Monday night.
Reid Detmers was a superb strikeout artist in the first half of the season, but he hasn't been as dominant lately. The Los Angeles Angels left-hander has gone under 5.5 strikeouts in seven straight starts, and he's averaged just 3.57 Ks over that span. The Seattle Mariners are one of the worst strikeout teams in MLB, but they knocked Detmers around for nine hits and seven runs in their last matchup. Let's hope for a similar result this time around.
